# Pair a Pearl device to Epiphan Edge

A Pearl device is paired to an Epiphan Edge team using a pairing code, or automatically using a pairing file on a USB stick. Choose the method that suits the model and how you have access to the device.

### Pair a Pearl device using the Admin panel

- Log in to the Admin panel on Pearl and click **Epiphan Edge** from the Configuration menu. On older firmware this may say **Epiphan Cloud**. The pairing code for your Pearl system is shown, as well as a link.

- Select **Click to pair**. The Epiphan Edge login page opens on a new tab in your web browser.

- As soon as you log in to your Epiphan Edge account, the device automatically pairs to your default team and the Device Settings page opens.

- Select different tabs to see more information about your Pearl device. For example, select the Channels tab to see all channels configured on the device.

**TIP**: While the Pearl device is paired, you can use the Admin panel to configure channels. The changes you make update automatically in Epiphan Edge.

### Pair Pearl-2 or Pearl Mini using the touch screen pairing code

- Using the touch screen on Pearl, tap the **gear** icon to open the Settings screen. Tap the arrow icon in the lower-right corner and select **Epiphan Edge. ** On older firmware this may say **Epiphan Cloud**.

- **If the Pearl-2 or Pearl Mini device is not currently paired to Epiphan Edge, the pairing code displays on screen. If the Pearl-2 or Pearl Mini is paired to Epiphan Edge, the screen shows the team it is paired to.

- Using a web browser on your admin computer, login to Epiphan Edge at go.epiphan.cloud, eu.epiphan.cloud, or au.epiphan.cloud

- In the far-right corner of the website, click **Pair device** to pair your Pearl device to the currently selected team. To pair the device to a different team, select a different team from the left navigation bar before you click **Pair device**.

- Enter the pairing code and a name for the device.

- Select **Pair device**.

- Select different tabs to see more information about your Pearl device. For example, select the Channels tab to see a list of all channels configured on the device.

**TIP**: When you're logged into Epiphan Edge, you can manually pair a device at any time using the device's pairing code when you click **Pair device** in the header.

### Pair Pearl Nexus using the Admin panel or Device Info over HDMI

Pearl Nexus does not have a built-in touch screen or display, so the touch screen pairing method does not apply. Pair Pearl Nexus using either of the following:

- Use the Admin panel pairing method described above.

- Connect a display to the Pearl Nexus HDMI output and read the pairing code from the Device Info screen, then enter that code in Epiphan Edge.

### Pair Pearl Nano using the front screen menu pairing code

- Press the **left arrow** key repeatedly on the control interface until the front screen menu displays.

- Use the arrow and check mark keys to select **System, **then** **select **Settings**

- From the Settings screen, select **Epiphan Edge**. On older firmware this may say **Epiphan Cloud**.

- **If Pearl Nano is not currently paired to Epiphan Edge, the pairing code displays on screen. If Pearl Nano is paired to Epiphan Edge, the screen changes and displays the option to **Unpair** instead of the pairing code.

- Using a web browser on your admin computer, log in to Epiphan Edge at go.epiphan.cloud, eu.epiphan.cloud, or au.epiphan.cloud

- In the far-right corner of the website, click **Pair device** to pair your Pearl device to the currently selected team. To pair the device to a different team, select a different team from the left navigation bar before you click **Pair device**.

- Enter the pairing code and a name for the device.

- Select **Pair device**.

- Select different tabs to see more information about Pearl Nano. For example, select the Channel tab to see the configured channel.

**TIP**: When you're logged into Epiphan Edge, you can manually pair a device at any time using the device's pairing code when you click **Pair device** in the header.

### Pair a Pearl device using a pairing USB stick

A pairing file downloaded from Epiphan Cloud pairs a Pearl device automatically when the USB stick is inserted. This method works on Pearl-2, Pearl Mini, Pearl Nano, and Pearl Nexus.

**Prepare the USB stick**

- Make sure the USB drive is formatted with either FAT, exFAT, ext2 or ext4.

- Connect the USB drive to a computer and change the USB drive label to **EPIPHAN**.

- Create a folder called **EPIPHAN** as a top level folder.

**Get the pairing file from Epiphan Cloud**

- Go to your Epiphan Cloud account and choose the team you want to pair the Pearl device to.

- Click **Pair device** at the top right.

- Click **Get pairing file** at the bottom. The pairing file downloads automatically.

- Copy the downloaded file into the **EPIPHAN** folder on the USB stick. Failing to place the pairing file in the EPIPHAN folder causes pairing to fail.

- Safely eject the USB stick from your computer.

**Pair the Pearl device**

- Insert the USB stick into the front of the Pearl device. On Pearl Nano, use the rear USB port instead.

- The Pearl device pairs automatically.

**Confirm whether pairing succeeded**

| Pearl model | Successful pairing | Unsuccessful pairing |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Pearl-2 | Epiphan Edge settings on the display or in the Pearl Admin panel show the paired team name | The display or the Admin panel show a pairing code |
| Pearl Mini | Epiphan Edge settings on the display or in the Pearl Admin panel show the paired team name | The display or the Admin panel show a pairing code |
| Pearl Nano | Epiphan Edge settings on the display or in the Pearl Admin panel show the paired team name | The display or the Admin panel show a pairing code |
| Pearl Nexus | A steady blue light on the front LED indicators for some seconds | A flashing red light on the front LED indicators for some seconds |

If you think the network is causing a problem, use the Pearl network diagnostic tools from the device display or the Admin panel. On Pearl Nexus, network status is available over the HDMI output by default.

After pairing, log in to Epiphan Cloud and click **All devices** under Epiphan Edge in the left sidebar to see the paired device. Enable **Detailed view** near the top of Epiphan Edge for more information. To rename the device, click the device name, change it, and press Enter.
