# Select which channels Opencast can use

*Applies to: Pearl-2, Pearl Mini, Pearl Nano, Pearl Nexus.*

You choose which Pearl device channels are available to Opencast for recording and for streaming. Each channel configured on the Pearl device is treated as a separate video source, so using multiple channels is how you capture multiple views of a single event.

The channels you make available here are the set Opencast can draw on. When you schedule an event in Opencast, you choose which of those available channels that event uses. An ad hoc event started from the Pearl device uses whichever channels are marked as available here, because there is no opportunity to choose at event-creation time.

Set up your channels before performing this task.

**Select the channels available to Opencast using the Admin panel**

- Log in to the Admin panel as **admin**.

- From the Configuration menu, click **CMS**. The Content management system configuration menu opens.

- Under **Channels**, use the **Channel configuration** table. Check **Active** for each channel you want available to Opencast.

- Set the **Flavor** for each active channel. The normal default values are **presenter** and **presentation**.

- Set **Live streaming** for each active channel to enable or disable streaming from that channel.

- Click **Apply** at the bottom of the page.

**Device differences**

- **Pearl Nano:** Pearl Nano has a single channel, so the **Channel configuration** table lists one row. The Active, Flavor and Live streaming settings apply to that channel.
