# Upload the local Panopto webcast recording

*Applies to: Pearl-2, Pearl Mini, Pearl Nexus, Pearl Nano.*

By default, the Pearl device always records a Panopto webcasting event locally and uploads that recording when the webcast ends. Once uploaded, the Panopto server uses the local recording from the Pearl device instead of the original webcast. You can disable this feature using the Admin panel.
Panopto ad hoc events have two event types: VOD or Live-stream. There is no combined VOD + Live-stream event type for Panopto. **Upload the webcast recording** is therefore what produces a recording of a Live-stream (webcast) event. When the setting is enabled, the Pearl device records the webcast locally and uploads that recording when the event ends. When the setting is cleared, the Pearl device streams the event only and no recording is produced. The setting is enabled by default.
- The Pearl device needs a storage solution installed to use this feature.
- If an upload schedule is set, the webcast recording uploads during the scheduled upload time period.
**Enable or disable uploading the local webcast recording using the Admin panel**
- Log in to the Admin panel as **admin**.
- From the Configuration menu, click **CMS**. The Content management system configuration page opens.
- Under **Settings**, check **Upload the webcast recording** and click **Apply** at the bottom of the page to always upload the local recording of webcasting events or uncheck **Upload the webcast recording** to disable the feature.
