# How events can be scheduled on Pearl devices

*Applies to: Pearl-2, Pearl Mini, Pearl Nano, Pearl Nexus.*

Recording and streaming events (webcasting and VOD) can be scheduled on Pearl devices only through the following methods:

- **Third-party CMS integration** — Kaltura, Panopto, YuJa, Opencast, and Echo360 (EchoVideo). Echo360 (EchoVideo) is supported on Pearl-2, Pearl Mini, and Pearl Nexus only; Pearl Nano does not support Echo360 (EchoVideo).
- **First-party integration** — Epiphan Edge.
- **REST API** — use a script or a third-party device to send record start and stop commands to the Pearl device using the Pearl REST API.

The scheduling method is selected from the **Choose CMS** dropdown on the CMS page of the Pearl Admin panel, under the Configuration menu.

Scheduling itself cannot be configured in the Admin panel, and there is no local scheduling control on the device. Scheduling is available only through a first-party integration, a third-party CMS integration, or the REST API. Without one of those integrations, recording and streaming can still be started and stopped on a local network using the Pearl REST API.

### Scheduling integration notes

*Applies to: Pearl-2, Pearl Mini, Pearl Nano, Pearl Nexus.*

- REST API commands exist for the third-party CMS integration functions, except for YuJa. There are no REST API commands for YuJa CMS functions.
- Epiphan Edge does not provide a REST API for scheduling or device control. Epiphan Cloud does expose an MCP (Model Context Protocol) endpoint: connect a supported AI assistant and you can ask about your devices, their recording state, storage space, and what is scheduled, in plain language. See "Connect an AI assistant to Epiphan Cloud using MCP" in the Epiphan Cloud and Epiphan Edge documentation.
- All third-party CMS integrations support automated recording uploads. AFU (Automatic File Upload) is configured automatically, and AFU settings cannot be changed by the user while a CMS integration is enabled.
- Epiphan Edge supports automated recording uploads when Epiphan Edge is selected as the AFU protocol on the Automatic File Upload page of the Pearl Admin panel. Other protocols are also available.
- Sharing and distribution of uploaded recordings is managed in the integration platform's own interface. For example, Epiphan Edge allows sharing and downloading of uploaded recordings.
