# Pearl firmware requirements and removed features

*Applies to: Pearl-2, Pearl Mini, Pearl Nexus, Pearl Nano, as noted per item.*

Check these before upgrading or downgrading a Pearl system.

- Epiphan Cloud EU servers only support Pearl devices on firmware version 4.24.1 or newer.
- Firmware 4.24.2 removes support for NDI|HX1 on Pearl-2, Pearl Mini, and Pearl Nexus.
- **Pearl Nexus:** release 4.22.0 is the initial Pearl Nexus release. Pearl Nexus cannot run firmware earlier than 4.22.0.
- **Pearl Nano:** devices with a serial number starting with GSAB or newer cannot be downgraded below firmware version 4.17. Attempting the downgrade produces an error and the upgrade is blocked.
- **Pearl-2:** all units manufactured after November 2022 have a new LCD screen and fan that require firmware 4.17.3 or higher, and cannot be downgraded. Pearl-2 units that receive a replacement fan also require 4.17.3 or higher.
- MPEG-DASH and UPnP are no longer supported as of release 4.18.0. Firmware 4.17 is the last version to support connections to UPnP enabled devices.
- Pearl as FTP server functionality was removed in release 4.14.2.
- Do not extract the .tar firmware file. Upload it exactly as downloaded on the Firmware Upgrade page of the Pearl Admin panel.
