# Add a video file to a layout

It is possible to add a video (.mp4) file to a layout and play it during a live production. Use the following procedure to add a video file to a layout:

- Log in to the Admin panel. For more information, see Connect to the Admin panel. If you need to upload a video file, follow steps 2-4. If you have already uploaded a video file, skip to step 5.

- In the **Configuration** panel, click **Media** to open the **Media** configuration page.

- Under **Upload file**, click **Choose File**.

- Select an .mp4 file from your computer or storage drive, then click **Open**.

- Click **Upload** to upload the file. The file should now appear under **Files**. If you need to upload multiple videos, repeat steps 3-5.

- Select the layout that will contain the video file within the **Channels** menu. To create a new channel, see Create a channel.

- Click **Add new item** and choose **Video file** from the drop down. Select the video from your uploaded videos.

- In the layout area, use the mouse, the keyboard or the manual position value fields to position and resize your video. For more details, see About the custom layout editor.

- When you are finished customizing your layout, click **Save**.
